For General Inquiry
What are the dates of the 2018 Hong Kong International Young Readers Festival?
5-16 March 2018.
When will the programme be announced?
Preliminary information for the Schools Programme is already published on our website. A full list of authors and public events will be available in January.
Where does the Festival take place?
Weekday events take place at schools all over the city. Weekend events will take place over the weekend from 10 to 11 March.
Do I need to buy tickets to attend events?
Yes. Tickets will be available for purchase on our website.
Can I donate to the Festival?
Yes! As a charitable organization, we rely on the generosity of individuals and corporations to keep the Festival going from year to year. Please click here to learn more.
How are writers chosen to participate in the Festival?
The Festival operates on an invitation-only basis and invitations are issued at the discretion of the Festival Manager and Board of Directors. Each year the Festival hears from authors wishing to speak at the Festival or from publishers and other people interested in putting forward an idea for the Festival programme. The Festival organisers do take the time to consider whether these unsolicited submissions, requests or pitches will fit into the Festival's themes and mission. Unfortunately, it is not possible to reply to each and every request.
Can you put me in touch with an author on the programme ?
For privacy reasons, we do not pass on contact details for authors attending the Hong Kong International Literary Festival. The best way to contact our guest authors is to attend their events: book signings almost always follow their talks. Alternatively, you may contact the authors through their publisher or agent.
How can I learn more about the Schools Programme?
The Schools Programme is a major component of both the Hong Kong International Young Readers Festival and the Hong Kong International Literary Festival. For more information, please click here.
Do you need volunteers?
Yes! Festival Volunteers are a vital and valued part of the Festival. Volunteers are often the first point of contact for the public as well as for many of our writers. As a volunteer, you will gain valuable experience working for one of the world's finest literary events, and have the opportunity to witness inspiring sessions and to meet other great volunteers. Visit our volunteers page to learn more.
I am a writer. Can I present my work at the Festival?
Invitations are issued at the discretion of the Festival Manager and Board of Advisors, who create the programme well ahead of each Festival. Each year the Festival receives lots of unsolicited submissions from authors wishing to speak at the Festival or people putting forward an idea for the programme. We welcome these suggestions, but due to the large number of unsolicited submissions received, we are unable to respond to every submission or return materials sent for consideration.
What happens at an author visit?
Our authors visit schools to give talks and workshops on various topics including writing, culture, creativity, adolescence, translation etc. Talks usually last for an hour and workshops an hour and a half, but the sessions can be tailored to accommodate the needs of the school.
I understand that YRF offers a subsidy to some schools. Can you tell me more about this?
Government and aided schools are eligible for our School Subsidy Scheme which subsidises author visits. An application can be made by submitting the subsidy application together with your booking form. Both documents are found in the Schools Programme pack which can be downloaded here.
How can I obtain a Press Pass for the Festival?
